Twelve Days in the Shadow of a Miracle for harp, flute, viola and tape reflects Lyle Mays' continuing interest in the fusion of contemporary jazz with classical chamber music. Commissioned by The Debussy Trio and Eric Bruskin, the work draws upon his skills as a composer and keyboardist which he has developed over years of collaborating and performing with the Pat Metheny Group.

Virtually all the harp writing in KUMBOSORA is based on the sound and playing style of the Kora, a 21-stringed lute played by West African storytellers of the Senegambia region. The flute and viola melodies are intended to evoke the singing of the griot storyteller.
